For those people really interested in making some real money with the Auction House in World of Warcraft, it’s vital to set up an alternate character and split up the work load of questing, leveling and traveling with selling and buying in a major city. You’ll save vast amounts of time and gold in traveling this way. Once you’ve set up your alt though, what should your next step be?

You’ll need to level up your Alternate character to level 5 or so. As soon as you do, unload everything they have so that their bags are empty and they can start buying and selling. If you have a large quantity of linen cloth for example, sell it all off for almost 50 Silver a stack (of 20) and buy more bags so you can carry more items. You’ll want both of your characters to have substantial amounts of space to carry items. You want to maximize the amount of time your main character can spend in the field gathering items and minimize the amount of time spent going back and forth to mailboxes.

You’ll probably see tons of low level characters with no equipment running around major cities. These are the alternates working the auction houses for their main characters. Now that you have everything you need set up, you can start making some money in the Auction House.

You’ll need to learn how to figure out what is worth gold and what isn’t. There are a lot of items on the market that fluctuate in value constantly. If you take the necessary time and energy to learn which ones are worth the energy and time to search for, you’ll find that you can corner the market on them. When you’ve found an item with high demand and limited supply, it’s time to start picking up as many of the item as you can. Find bargain prices of that item in the Auction House or go out and Farm for it, then turn around and sell it for market price in the Auction House. This is the basic formula of buying low and selling high, but can be taken to different levels by using two characters.

Now, with every item found Green or better in the field by your Main that they cannot use, send it to your Alternate and sell it in the Auction House. Almost everything can sell and you haven’t done anything to buy those items…you’ve just found regular items while questing. However, some green items won’t sell and if that’s the case, don’t repost them too many times; it’s a waste of time.

Every day when you log on, you simply logon to your Alternate character and check the markets to see what is available and what’s selling well. This way, while you’re questing with your main character you can keep an eye out for those items.
