If you only play World of Warcraft for an hour or two a day, you don't want to spend all your time trying to get gold by gathering raw materials to sell at the Auction House. This will get you gold, sure, but you want to be able to enjoy your time as well, and not be so hung up on competing with everyone else for such an obviously rare resource. You want to play, spend time with your guild and relax with friends.

How is this helpful? Well, because most of the time when someone wants to sell something, they usually price it the same as everyone else, or they just guess – they have no idea what an item’s real value is.

World of Warcraft Auctioneer lets you know the real value, so you can set your asking price accordingly and not give someone else a great bargain. Or, you can buy an item cheaply, and resell it to make a large profit once you know how much you can get for it. If you know it usually sells for 30 gold but they’re asking 20, it’s a profit without even working for it.

Another facility Auctioneer boasts is a search function that allows you to look through auctions where you can buy an item and make an immediate profit. Auctioneer will tell you what items to purchase (and at what price they are) and you’ll know how much to ask for them.

You might not get what you’re asking but you’ll still make a tidy profit. Again, you don’t even have to work for it – Auctioneer does all the work and you get the rewards. Plus, it gives you vital stats on the item – how it is used, tips for effective use, what level is required to use it, how many of the item have been auctioned, as well as the starting and finishing prices.

It is not the be-all-and-end-all, but if you take the time to learn how to use it and what everything means, it can be a handy tool that will make you lots of gold for very little work. Just don’t catch gold fever and spend all your time in the Auction Houses and not out in the ‘real’ world!
